THE SECRET OF BUSINESS AND MARKETING WIZARDRY

VOLUME 8 ISSUE 4 April 2004

Publisher: Joe Trevison MBA/CPA
Co-Publisher & Editor: Cheri Carlson
Co-Editor: James J. Trevison

This Issue: Kraus & Trevison, Inc. Formation.

In June of 2003 I got fired from my teaching job. But since I have several other sources of income it did not hurt too long. My associate decided he was tried working for this man who was making all the money and treating us like low life. Therefore, he quit the job. This was in late July.

We decided to go into business together. My associate Norbert Kraus or as we call him, John by his middle name is an expert with computers hosting, web design, and repair, just like my friend Chuck Dearbeck. Chuck hosts my site: www.joetrevison.com

We took Trevison & Trevison, Inc. and changed with no stockholders and secretary. We also changed the name to Kraus & Trevison, Inc.

The first thing we wanted to do was get a building. The first building was too much money. The second building needed a lot of work.

So we want to the bank for a loan for the business and working capital.

In the past if you had property to use as collateral banks use to give you the farm.

This is not the case anymore.

You need the following to get a loan from any source in this day and age.

1. A way to pay the loan back
2. Property to cover the loan
3. Good credit

You must have two of these or you’re out of the ball game. We could have done it with my credit and means to pay it back and my property. But my wife would not let me. I want a happy marriage so we used John as the principle borrower.

Let me just say we tried two banks and did not get a loan or working capital.

So what would you do?

We moved into the same building I rent for my tax office and moved upstairs and took 3 offices.

Since it was not tax season when we started, we did not have much money. We used the following to get customers:

1. Sign on the first floor with Brochures to take.

2. Business Cards

3. Direct Mail

4. Brochures

5. Flyers

People looked at the sign and took brochures like wildfire. We put them out during the holidays. We did not get any calls during the holidays so we did not know what was going on. No one responded. You figure it out. I cannot.

I got so depressed I started picking on John that he was not working fast enough with the computer hosting and web development like he was supposed to do.

In January 6, 2004 we were still trying to get our papers changed from Trevison & Trevison, Inc. to Kraus & Trevison, Inc.

The state of Pennsylvania is a heck of a stupid organization to work with but that is another story.

On January 6, 2004 we decided to end Kraus & Trevison, Inc. John is now in room 506 and I am in room 504. We still may do some joint projects. That is another way of doing business for an indefinite or definite time frame.

I am now doing taxes, factoring, book authoring, web design, and web hosting, and tutoring. For this, I am doing these with other associates, no never a full partner again in my lifetime. It just does not work.
