THE MARKETING AND BUSINESS WIZARDRY
Volume 8 issue 7 July 2004 Publisher: Joe Trevison MBA/CPA. Co-Publisher/Chief Editor: Cheri Carlson Co-Editor: James J. Trevison, Edinboro University, Junior, Major English Writing A Note from the Co-Publisher/Chief Editor: It has been a hectic few months in my home. My brother who is a 24 year veteran of the U.S. Navy was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2004. Please keep him and all the other U.S. servicemen and woman who are serving our country all over the world in your prayers. Goals: Deming and Napoleon Hill Author: Joe Trevison I once wrote in these newsletter topics about goals which are a waste of time. This is still valid. Here is what the greatest Guru of business that ever lived said about goals which I agree completely. Deming says a numeric goal is meaningless in terms of changing behavior. "This year our goal is to increase sales by 10%." Deming's points out that if you knew how to do that, then you would have done it last year. What is the reason you think you can increase sales by 10 percent? Why 10 percent and not 7, 11, or 12 percent? He says that any purely numeric goal must be accompanied by a description of how that goal is to be reached, in systemic terms. "This year, we will increase our number of customer contacts by ignoring all headquarters, paperwork requirements and using the time we save to scout new customers."
Specific numeric goals also produce all kinds of weird behavior, as people: (a) get lax after reaching a goal, or screw around with the system to meet the numbers, possibly at the expense of larger systemic goals. He wanted reasons and if he had read Dr. Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” he would have discovered Hill was on the right step as usual.
Here are Hill’s steps for goals, which explain how to do them. Hill talks about money but it can be anything, weight, meeting women or men or whatever ever you heart desires.
1. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you want. 2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire
3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
4. Create a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire, and begin at once whether you ready or not to put this plan into action.
5. Write the statement out.
6. Read your written statemetn about twice daily, once just before retiring and once upon arising in the morning.
I think this would meet with Demining's process. Don't you.? Try it. Do it Now!
one more item, “How to get success with a Master Mind Group and Initiative and Leadership!” explained by Dr. Hill. Let’s make sure you understand what a Master Mind group is: A Mastermind Group: The coordination of effort between two or more people in a spirit of perfect harmony in order to attain a specific objective.
Here is what you do:
THE MAJOR ATTRIBUTES OF INITIATIVE AND LEADERSHIP In applying initiative and leadership, certain defined steps are essential. The following are the most important of these steps. 1) Know definitely what you want. (2) Build a practical plan for the achievement of what you want by making use of the counsel and advice of your Master Mind group. (3) Surround yourself with an organization made up of men who have the knowledge and experience essential for carrying out your definite aim.
(4) Have sufficient faith in yourself and in your plans, to see your aim a finished reality even before you begin to carry out your plans. (5) Do not become discouraged no matter what obstacles you may meet. If one plan fails to work substitute other plans until you have found the one that will work for you.
(6) Do no guessing but get the facts as the basis of all of your plans.
(7) Do not be influenced by others to abandon your plans or your aim.
(8) Have no set hours of labor. The leader must devote to his task whatever hours are necessary for success.
(9) Concentrate upon one thing at a time as you cannot dissipate thought and energy and still be efficient.
(10) Whenever possible delegate to others the responsibility of details, but have a system for checking your subordinates to see that these details are accurately attended to. Hold yourself accountable at all times for carrying out all of your plans, bearing in mind that if you subordinates fail; it is you yourself who have failed. ' That’s it! What are you waiting for.? I cannot do it for you. I wish I could.
