“Case Study of Starting a Business for $200 or Less”
By: Joe Trevison MBA CPA
And Mystery Guest: Pete Gray (not real name)

It all started by talking about one of my favorite gurus Jay Abraham. One of the people talked about starting a business with less than $200. I am always interested in how people start a business with zero or little cash. One of my clients bought a beauty salon for $1.00. I started my accounting practice with an angel that paid the first several months of rent.

Pete started a pin business. I had no idea what type of business this was. So he explained it. Also he has no building for his business. I guess he does it out of his home.

I am going to let you read the emails (and I took his address out of it for his protection).

----------------------------------------------------------------

I thought one day I wanted to organize cocktails parties for companies.
So I bought glasses, dresses for 1 girl. And also built a website.
Total I spent about 200$. The Website I made in 1 week. Also
I needed a company, but thought it's too expensive. So I found a
company, which can write checks for my clients.
As I already had a paintball business, I could propose these cocktail parties
to my existing customers.

So my total investment was 200$, and I can be in business, I would call that
building a business without a money. Of course after some time I have to
establish a company, need some more money, but it is smarter to establish a
company when you already have clients.
But here is the website: http://www.kokteiliai.net, but I was too lazy to find a
waitress. Too few of them proposed I pay double, that they are getting in a big
company, but for them it was unusual, to speak about working for me in a
cafe.

Here is another idea:

I want to establish a chain of strike ball clubs. So my friend will provide
money I think, and I will provide my expertise (quite the same as organizing
paintball games), and energy. We will share profit, after that. A good
deal for me, and a good deal for him.

Then I asked him about what these pen ball and others things were and here was his answer:

Hi Joe,

Paintball club is where people come to you; you give them
paintball guns, ammo, organize a game, and are responsible
for people having a good time.

Here is one of many paintball clubs in US:
http://www.njpaintball.com/

and here is minefield:
http://www.misija.net

Strike ball is something like paintball, but instead of paintballs, you
use plastic shots. It's like paintball clubs, but strike ball is
cheaper a little bit, and guns look like real ones.

And why would a corporation write checks for your clients?
To get a percentage of sale. It's good business if you just write
checks and get your commissions, and someone works for you and does the dirty job :)

Here is his last email about this business:

Paintball club = paintball field. A place where you can rent a gun, and
play paintball. Strike ball is a similar game to paintball. Only shooting with
real guns replicas, and use plastic instead of paintball.

And why in the world would a corporation pay checks for your clients?
That does not make real sense, does it?
Corporation will take checks from clients for commissions.

Do you have a building?
No, too expensive at this time.

And you discovered one of the greatest secrets.
Yes. Learning many things from audiotapes. After my mind is changing, I see I get some money coming to me also :) (I don’t know what audio tapes he is discussing), But this sounds like Hill’s ideas of affirmations, which I too practice.

By the nature of my business, I have the addresses etc. of all my tax
and business clients.
Do you mail them?

This was his questions to me, which started a new subject. Next month I will continue with this: “How to Send Direct Mail to Clients Effectively”.

P.S. I hope you got your FREE tools from my site. I love to know what you did with them, and welcome your comments and testimonials on my stuff. Help me out and I will continue to help you.
