“The Business Plan” by Joe Trevison
I once had the opinion that no one needed a business plan. However I read the source where the guru told me he got that idea. and this source did not agree with what was written on the report. I decided that you need a business plan to survive. I and many of my clients did not have one. However we survived. We did have them in our minds, however.
Over and over studies prove that businesses that fail to plan are essentially planning to fail. Putting together a business plan is crucial to your business’ survival.
There are one page plans, six page plans and even forty-nine page plans.
I am looking at one I did with a partner I once had. However it did not work out because he was more interested in his secretary than business. After we went out of businesses together I stayed with my accounting and tax business but he left with his secretary and his wife later left him and he now is with his secretary on disability.
Here is what is in it:
1. Executive Summary
2. Objectives
3. A Mission Statement
4. Company Summary
5. Company Ownership
6. Start-up Summary
7. Market Analysis Summary
8. Market Segmentation or The Marketing Plan
My partner said he had a computer repair base of clients who have family waiting to take classes. This never happened.
We were going to use classified advertising in magazines and newspapers and customer lists to use direct mail. He never did that either.
You got to do what the plan tells you especially the marketing.
You probably can find copies of similar plans on the net.
Here are some other things you can have in the plan:
An Objective and Business Description –detailing your business concepts and goals; a product/Services Description –the items you’re offering. Why they’re marketable, etc; Operational details -who your suppliers are or how you’ll produce items if you intend to manufacture them; Your Financial Plan –including estimated start-up costs, pricing information, sales estimations., etc.
The only thing we did not have in our plan was sales estimations.
Also, there are flexible Business Plans.
I have about 5 books on different plans.
Next month I will tell you about one page plans. and the flexible plan.
Every man is familiar with the phrase 'My business is different.' Nearly every time I have tried to convince an advertiser that a plan which has worked successfully in another business might work successful in his, he has at least thought, if he did not say it, that his business is different. But old and used ideas can be adapted to any business.” Maxwell Sackheim stated this in this book. He tells so much more. I know we are into a depression and many of us have little money but with this book you can start making money fast:
Just go to visit my shopping cart on the web at:
http://www.joetrevison.com/shop.
Take a look at this: “My First 65 Years in Advertising” You can’t find it at any bookstore because it is out of print and you will pay a small fortune any place else. Got to Amazon.com and try if you don’t believe me.
Until next month well wishes.
