Happy New Year Everyone!
Four Steps Any Business Can Use to Survive in any Economy
Author: Joe Trevison
The first things I ever read about trends and the likes and what to do about them was in one of the late, Clement Stone books. Mr. Stone was a friend and colleague of Dr. Napoleon Hill. And if you do not know who Napoleon Hill was just go to your book store and buy “Think and Grow Rich”. This is the book I found when I was 15 but it took me 20 years to discover what it means, and how to apply what was in the book.
But we are discussing trends and business survival.
How Does Business Survive in all types of Economy?
What Mr. Clement stated was the business had to breed:
New Life
New Blood
New Ideas
New Activities
You have to decide what to do about the list because each business is different.
LET US GO DEEPER IN OUR SEARCH!
How I discovered these four steps was, well let me keep that as a secret for now. But it was due to a lot of reading and thinking on my part to give you a small hint.
Cut Expenses
Increase Advertising and other marketing activities in order to create more revenue
Discontinue any activity not performing satisfactory
Find new ways to earn revenue
So what kind of expenses do you cut? That depends on expenses not essential to the business success. Be careful in laying off people. Lay off the non-producers. Make sure that if you do lay off others the workload does not become too great for those you keep.
I know some big companies buy planes but things like that do not bring income to the firm. In hard times it is just crazy to have things like that. Even in good times it frequently is money down the drain.
Discontinuing any activity not performing satisfactory should not be difficult. If you cannot make a decent profit on the product or service get rid of it. Find out what your customer wants and give it them. Give them bonuses like I do when you buy directly from my downtown office. These bonuses do not have to be expensive…but they do have to have a high-conceived value. I have seen businesses give away free web sites. This has a value of 1000’s of dollars. This guy found it on the net to give away. It did not cost him a cent.
Finally, find new ways to earn revenue: Partnerships, Associations, come to mind very quickly.
Next month I will tell you about my millionaire nephew and his secrets.
I hope I helped.
