Marketing Plans A Piece Of Garbage!
Joe Trevison MBA/CPA
I have seen a lot of business plans and most have been a piece of garbage. Even the ones that you might have paid a hefty price for are usually useless. The best one I have seen is by Jay Levinson Conrad who writes the Guerrilla Marketing books. There are only 6 sentences to work with. Ok, I know you want them so here they are:
1)A mission statement that uniquely defines your business
2)A set of goals you hope to achieve with the plan
3)A list of resources you'll need to carry out the plan
4)A list of targets you'll attack
5)A set of weapons and tactics you'll use to attack each target
6)A calendar that gets you through the battle
But you know what the best of the business tools is? It is a calendar---a marketing calendar. These are also spelled out in Jay's book that you can get at your library or buy at your favorite bookstore.
Here is a plan one of my favorite students who is the President of the 1,000 members Erie Civic Music Association.
He and the organization wanted 1300 new members. In the short time that had to do this they reached 800 new members. Yes, this is 500 short of the goal but not bad. And the only way they even reached this number is because they had a marketing plan.
THE PLAN FROM THE SNAIL WORLD THAT WORKED
Each item had a member working on it. I will put letters showing how many people worked on just the target.
